Frequently Asked Questions

For Patients

Are you seeing new patients?

Yes, but due to demand and the limited availability of volunteer healthcare providers, we often have to put someone on a waitlist.
Pregnancy care is available any time the clinic is open, without a waitlist.

How much does a visit cost?

  • Office visits with any of our providers cost $25.

  • We do not charge a visit fee if you are just coming to pick up medicine or to drop off a laboratory specimen.

  • The laboratory fee is also $25, and this is separate from a care provider fee.

  • Eye doctor: $25 visit fee and $50 for the eyeglasses themselves.

How can I pay for my visit?

Most patients use cash. Some pay with a check or money order. We are not able to accept credit cards at this time.

Who is providing my care?

We have a variety of health care providers, including medical doctors, nurse practitioners (NP), and physician assistants (PAs).
We also have nurses of various types, such as Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).
Blood draws (laboratory tests) are usually done by a laboratory technician or a medical assistant.
We have students from many schools help with basic tasks, such as checking a blood pressure. Other students may perform more advanced care (for example, pharmacy students and nursing students).

One thing we have in common is that we are all volunteers!

General

Are you a free clinic?

We charge a nominal fee for each patient appointment. The fee does not cover clinic costs, and so Bolingbrook Christian Health Center is still classified as a “Free & Charitable Clinic.” We are a member of both the national and the state (of Illinois) associations of Free and Charitable clinics.

Are your doctors and healthcare providers paid?

No. We are able to operate only because of the incredibly generous volunteer time and expertise donated by our licensed medical providers.

Our executive director and some administrative support receive a modest staff stipend, governed by the board of directors and based on availability of funds.

What services do you provide?

As volunteers are available, we provide primary care, gynecology, cardiology, lab tests, physical therapy, optometry, and patient education.
